Meet Your Doula – Jo Ann Bishop CD/PCD(DONA)

Doula: Ancient Greek for one who serves

Ciao! I’m Jo Ann Bishop, a professional Certified DONA International doula. I have been “one who serves” throughout my career and am dedicated to the most current, evidence based methods of preparing you for pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. My commitment to continuous education as demonstrated by being a certified Body Ready Method® Pro allows me to serve you with the most up to date techniques as they relate to pregnancy. As a BRM® Pro, I serve birthing people with deeper insight about physiological birth. My satisfaction comes from assisting others achieve their desired outcomes. I am sensitive to your vision and serve you without my own agenda, to support you through labor and delivery. I bring mature experience to a sacred event in your life.

Birthing is some of the hardest work you will ever do in your life. Having a certified trained labor coach and professional continuous labor support is shown to improve birth satisfaction outcomes. My goal is to listen to you, help you find your voice and connect you and your partner more deeply.

My support style is to provide you evidence based practices for comfort and care. You are entitled to a physiologic birth mindset in every setting, be it hospital or birth center. Having loving support throughout your labor can make a profound difference in your satisfaction with your birth.

As a postpartum doula during your fourth trimester, I’ll draw on my experience, wisdom and training to foster strong family bonding, increase your confidence as a new mother, and offer practical support in feeding, sleeping, and household organization.

When I’m not supporting families, my greatest joy comes from lingering around the table with family and loved ones after cooking a delicious and nutritious meal. I enjoy training my doggy, spending time with my husband, two daughters and their families. Working out and being physically fit gives me the energy to accompany you throughout your hard work of labor and delivery. My days begin with a walk along Lake Michigan to greet the sun and set an intention.

I look forward to hearing from you and learning how I can serve your family.
